After weeks of sifting through documents and crunching numbers within various departments, the City of Thomson has unanimously approved a budget for the year 2010 that totals $19,089,291.

Darlow Maxwell soon will assume a new job -- that of finance director of McDuffie County. Mr. Maxwell, who has been serving as city accountant/chief financial officer for the City of Doraville, is expected to begin his new job on Monday, Nov. 30.

| McDuffie Museum closing for project |
An old, familiar sight from Railroad Street will soon be visible in the McDuffie Museum. Director Jenny Lindsey said the museum will be closed the second week of December for the reconstruction and installation of Jake McCord's front porch.

| Hickory Hill tour to feature traditions rooted in nature |

Hickory Hill has gone to the birds, and the home's annual holiday tour will join the flock. Curator Michelle Zupan said the tour will take place the final weekend of the Southern Naturalists exhibit currently on display there.

| Board to OK no millage increase this year |
Local property owners have received their share of bad news in the amount of taxes they've had to pay the past two years. There is one bit of good news on the horizon, though.

| BOE adopts policy on group audits |
McDuffie County School Board members recently adopted a policy requiring parent and booster organizations to go through annual financial audits. School Superintendent Jim LeBrun said no wrong-doing was suspected and no organization is in question.
