| Census workers will be easy to identify |
Local residents should be receiving surveys for the 2010 U.S. Census in the mail later this month, according to Diane Waterman, of the U.S. Census Atlanta Regional Office.

WARRENTON, Ga. --- A water main that broke near the City of Warrenton's water plant on Monday night forced the closure of public schools in Warren County on Tuesday.

Thomson High School recently announced Aaron Washington as the valedictorian and Drake Smallwood as the salutatorian of the Class of 2010. The announcement was no surprise to the two seniors.

| Student speeches tell of lives transformed |

Transformation was celebrated at Springfield Baptist Church Saturday during an oratorical contest for young students. Approximately 75 attended the event, which was sponsored and hosted by the Thomson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Thomson Mayor Kenneth Usry tells Norris Elementary Quest students about Arbor Day, the importance of trees, and how the Watson-Brown Foundation helps Thomson each year by donating trees. The foundation donates a tree that is grown on property at Hickory Hill to plant somewhere in the city each year. This year's location was a memorial garden at NES. McDuffie Schools Superintendent Jim LeBrun is ready with the shovel to plant the American Beech tree, and Georgia Forresty's Smokey Bear waits to visit with the students.

| Program provides huggable stuffed animals for children |
Sometimes a child just needs a bear hug. When there are tragedies, adults sometimes have difficulty coping. For a child, however, it's much worse. It's during those times of crises and tragedies a child's world becomes threatening and challenging.

| Eleventh Hour will perform at Depot |
The McDuffie Arts Council is bringing back Eleventh Hour for a concert in Thomson. The concert is begins at 6 p.m. March 13 in the Depot. Although the group has performed twice in Thomson, this will be their first time in the historic Depot.

| Traditional phone is gone |
In my lifetime technology has come, gone, and changed forms faster than the Wonder Twins. Though it, too, has gone the way of the ghetto blaster, we still have a traditional household telephone - that thing, mounted on the kitchen wall, with the long cord small children once reveled in wrapping around their necks to get their mother's attention while she tried to have a serious conversation with a girlfriend about the latest antics of her mother-in-law.

Michael and Janet Key of Thomson announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Jo Key of Thomson, to Justin Daniel Simmons of Boneville, son of Vicki Simmons of Boneville and Jimmy Simmons of Greenwood, S.C. The wedding will be held March 27 at 4 p.m. at Riverview Farms in Mayfield, Ga. Reception will follow.
