| Parents learn about new math curriculum |
Approximately 50 parents went back to math class last week during Thomson High School's Math Night. Assistant Principal Lynn Cato said the purpose of the event was to explain the changes in the state's math curriculum and graduation requirements.

The annual Veterans Day celebration in Thomson has grown this year thanks to a local school. Students of McDuffie Achievement Center will hold a cook-out for veterans at McDuffie Place at Lake Thurmond.

McDuffie Schools Superintendent Jim LeBrun and Mighty Max, the Maxwell Elementary School mascot, served as grand marshalls of the school's Roar Parade recently. The parade celebrated students' academic achievements. Parents watched the parade, which took place in front of the school. Each class participated along with the Thomson High School Bulldog Brigade, the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department, Thomson Police Department and the fire departments.

Buzzly the bee teaches fire safety to Thomson Elementary students. The Buzzly Fire Safety Program is made possible in McDuffie County by a grant from Jefferson Energy Cooperative. McDuffie County Fire Lt. Ed Lewis said the program is taught in English and Spanish.
