AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Roy Lee Burrum, 89, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Evelyn Crouch Burrum, entered into rest on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Karon Compton & Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.
Family members served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Nora Ann Apple, Thomson; granddaughter Kathy (Bernard) Hughes, Augusta; grandson Roy M.(Christine) Brown, Boca Raton, Fla.; granddaughter and grandson Makayla and Zack Salyers; great-grandchildren Nora Johnson, Warrenton, Felicia Bass, Augusta, Bernard M. Hughes III, Augusta, Robert (Bobby) Hughes, Augusta, Katlyn G. Brown, Boca Raton, Fla.; great great-grandchildren Chandler Johnson & Katherine Johnson, Warrenton; sister Esther Dunaway, Augusta; brother C.W. Burrum, Jr., Augusta.
Mr. Burrum was a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army in WW II. Serving as a Tank Commander during the Battle of Saipan, he was responsible for the control and coordination of the tactical tank crew and members. He received the Asiatic-Pacific service medal with one bronze star. He was a member of Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church.
