On behalf of the Prevent Child Abuse McDuffie County Council, I want to take this opportunity to thank the three elementary schools that participated in our annual Change for Change fundraiser: Norris Elementary, Thomson Elementary and Maxwell Elementary. This annual event raises money to support our child abuse prevention programs, including our gift bags to all new mothers, our teen parent support group and our in-home case management program for at risk families.
This year's event, which was held in December, raised a record $1,698,44. Mrs. Murphy's fifth grade class at Norris Elementary broke the record for a single classroom, with their donation of $139.04.
We wish to thank the principals, Mr. Steve Rhodes, Mrs. Mychele Swain and Dr. Donald Davis, the teachers, children, parents and staff at these three schools for their generosity and giving spirit. We also want to thank Ken Usry and his staff at Regions Bank who graciously gave their time to count the many coins that were contributed.
Thank you for helping us in our efforts to reduce the child abuse and neglect rates in McDuffie County.
