Senior guard Monique Martin, who has already established herself as one of the most prolific scorers in Brewton-Parker College history, has been named the Division I Women's Basketball player of the week for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
During a stretch that included wins over Warner Southern on Dec. 29 and Flagler College on Dec. 30, Martin averaged 31.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. She had six assists, seven blocks, and 11 steals for the week. She also shot 90 percent from the free throw line over both games.
"It's a great honor for the NAIA to choose me as their player of the week, considering there were so many other good players nominated with me," said Martin. "I just want to continue to play hard and do whatever I can to help my team win."
With this national award, Martin can now be considered for the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball player of the year award at the end of the season.
"It's a tremendous honor for a great player," said head coach Sheila Simmons. "She's been consistent all year. She's well-deserving of the honor."
