AMERICUS, Ga. - Mr. Raymond Lee Oliver, Jr., 84, died Monday morning January 2, 2006, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Young Memorial Methodist Church in Thomson with the Rev. Joseph W. Whitwell and Rev. R. Edward Cook officiating with burial to follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson.
Mr. Oliver was born the son of the late Raymond Lee Oliver, Sr. and Clara Davies Oliver on Sept. 30, 1921 in Americus, Sumter County; Mr. Oliver was in insurance sales, worked for Augusta Dry Goods Company and Thomson Wholesale Grocery. Also, Mr. Oliver was self employed, owner operator of Oliver Home Furnishings and Repair in Thomson. He was a charter member of Young Memorial Methodist Church in Thomson and also a member of Sasser United Methodist Church in Sasser. He was also a member of The Georgia Peace Officers Association. Mr. Oliver was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret G. Oliver, Americus; cousins, Grady C. Davies, Thomasville, Caroline O. Barfield, Augusta, C.H. Oliver Jr. and Betty Haynes, both of Dawson, Lee Oliver, Dalton, Thomas Oliver, Grey and Phillip Oliver, Macon.
