Mr. John A. Love, Jr.

THOMSON, Ga. - Sgt. First Class Jr. John A Love, Jr., 74, of Thomson, died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta. He was born September 28, 1932, in York, S.C., to the late John and Louise Love.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York, S.C., with Rev. Reginald McClean officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens with full military honors.

At an early age, Mr. Love joined the Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 22 years. He completed two tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam, where he earned the Good Conduct medal and the Bronze Star with the oak leaf cluster and was also a sharp shooter. Upon retirement from the military, he joined the Thomson Police Department, where he served for 20 plus years until his final retirement.

He is survived by three sons, Johnny Love, Jr. (Joanne) of York, S.C., Mike Reese (Margaret) of Thomson, and Johnny Dunlap of York, S.C.; one sister, Mamie Helen Byrd (James) of Clover, S.C.; seven brothers, Frank Love (Pearl) of Washington, D.C., Elize Love (Annie) Gastonia, N.C., Walter Love of Gastonia, N.C., Billy Love of Clover, S.C., James Love (Leola) of Clover, S.C., Charles P. Love (Diane) of Pickens, S.C. and Allen Love (Della) of Clover, S.C.; two aunts, Inez Webb of Gastonia, N.C., and Rose Holmes of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.
