Both of Warren County's varsity basketball teams split games over the weekend. The boys' and girls' teams continued their winning ways Friday night with big wins over Taliaferro County, but both weren't quite so fortunate against Hancock on Saturday.
The Lady Devils kicked off Friday night with their third consecutive win by posting a score of 60-33 against Taliaferro.
Leading Scorers for the Devils were Quavoncia Walker with 21 - including nine steals - and Candice Warthen with 20 points and 13 steals. Kenvetta Reese contributed eight points of her own while Somone Hordens and Lashundria Reynolds provided excellent defense and rebounding play.
The Devils followed the girl's win with a dominating performance in the second half of their game, posting an 86-64 win.
Tommy Seals led the scoring with 33 points and added seven steals on the evening. C.J. Williams added 17 points and 10 boards. Travis Burley also contributed with 16 points, eight boards and four blocks.
Against Hancock, the Lady Devils were never able to get their perimeter game going and lost by a final score of 21-56. Warthen scored all but one of the Lady Devils' points, and she also posted six rebounds in the loss.
The gym was standing room only by the time the varsity boys took the court, and Hancock jumped out to an early 9-0 lead. The Screaming Devils rallied to go to the locker room only down by three.
The end of the third quarter saw Hancock leading by a score of 37-51. Warren County dug deep to pull to within two with less than three minutes to go. Seals' last second three point attempt missed, sealing the 55-58 win for Hancock.
Seals led the Screaming Devils in scoring with 16 points. Williams added 15 points and 10 boards. Burley had 11 rebounds and four blocks on the night.
