This year, just as every year previous, the Thomson High School Choral Department will put on the annual musical. Guys and Dolls is a hilarious musical with gamblers and showgirls.
Most of the casting and production of Guys and Dolls is being done as usual. There is, however, something different about this year's musical.
Carol Poss sings during a recent practice for Guys and Dolls at THS.
One of the leading female roles includes Carol Poss, a freshman at THS. Carol is playing the role of Sarah Brown in this production. Carol was very surprised when she received the role but she said she was not at all intimidated.
"I like being challenged, and by being a freshman with a leading role I am pushed to give it all I've got," said Carol.
Besides having a leading role in Guys and Dolls, being a member of the Freshmen Chorus and the Musical Theater class, Carol has a full load outside of school too. Carol had one of the leading roles in her church Christmas play "Objects in Christmas Are Closer than They Appear" and she also teaches children's church and keeps nursery at Marshall Baptist Church, where her father is the Associate Pastor and Music Director. Also at MBC, Carol is an active member of the youth group and sings in the choir.
Carol is the daughter of Bruce and Sandra Poss of Thomson. She has a younger brother, Cameron Poss, a sixth grader at Thomson Middle School.
Carol says that she would like to first of all thank God for giving her the amazing talent to act and sing, her mom and dad for shuffling her to all of her rehearsals, and Mrs. Bailey for having faith in her and giving her this great opportunity. She would also like to thank all of her friends and family for all of their love and support and for helping her to accomplish her goals.
You can see Carol on Feb. 9, 10, and 11 at 7 p.m. in Guys and Dolls at THS.
