Vivian Williams and Rusty Lovelace talk about Pearl Baker and her influence on McDuffie County. Mr. Lovelace is holding a plaque Mrs. Williams dedicated to Mrs. Baker during a ceremony last week.
|
Museum Board Member Rusty Lovelace accepted a plaque that explains Mrs. Baker's contributions to preserving much of McDuffie County's history. Mrs. Williams, along with members of her family, Mrs. Baker's family and local officials gathered at the Depot for the presentation.
The plaque reads: "This is placed in honor of the late Pearl Baker, the driving force behind the beginning of the Wrightsboro (Quaker) Foundation, the first to recognize the historic importance of the Quaker settlement, the Wrightsboro Church (1799), and the Old Rock House (circa 1785) with its direct link to President Jimmy Carter whom she took there and showed around. Historian, dedicated researcher and author of The Story of Wrightsboro and other publications, Pearl Baker deserves recognition, remembrance and deep affection. - Friends of Pearl Baker."
