Chamber, labor department sponsor job fair

The Georgia Department of Labor and the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor the East Central Georgia Expo later this month.

The expo will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 2-6 p.m. at the Thomson Depot.

Area employers will share job-related information and employer expectations with the job seekers.

Representatives of the labor department's Thomson Career Center and the local Vocational Rehabilitation Services office will be on hand to assist job seekers. Several workshops are planned, including resume writing and job-search skills. Computers will be available for job search on the Internet. Also, representatives of Augusta Technical College's McDuffie campus and the Sandersville Technical College in Washington County will be available to provide information on educational opportunities for job seekers. The local Workforce Investment Board (WIB), the East Central Georgia Consortium, will also be represented to discuss funding opportunities for job training.

Applicants should bring identification, updated resumes, and dress appropriately.

For more information about the career expo, contact Employment Services Specialist Ginger Rowland of the Thomson Career Center at (706) 595-3665.

The career center provides job seekers and employers with a wealth of new information and resource services, modern technology, and a customer-focused, state of the art business environment. The Georgia Department of Labor has enhanced its services to customers with the development of a new and improved web site. The on line resource gives information on the various service and programs operated by the labor department and other Georgia workforce partners. Additionally, the web site helps equip workers and new entrants into the job market with the tools and information needed to evaluate career options, prepare for work, and find the right job. It also provides employers with an abundance of workforce related information. The site may be accessed at
