Lady Screaming Devils at top of their game

WARRENTON, Ga. - The Lady Screaming Devils of Warren County High School are making all kinds of strives on the basketball court and coming with big wins to top it off this season.

The team's success is exactly what first year Head Coach Jaamal Rhoades had ordered.

Right now, the Lady Screaming Devils have won six of their last eight games and sport a perfect 4-0 Sub-Region 7-A record.

To say that the team has come a long way in the last three years would be putting it mildly. Take two years ago, for example. The varsity basketball team went 1-20. Last year, they won four more games then the previous season to finish with an overall record of 5-16.

Already this season, the Lady Screaming Devils have won as many games as they did the last two seasons combined.

"I'm very proud of how far we've come as a team this season," Coach Rhoades said after his Lady Screaming Devils defeated Lincoln County's Lady Red Devils 68-64 in a come from behind win last Friday night at the Warren County High gym. "We must continue to improve and get better, though."

The Lady Screaming Devils started out the season much like they had done the previous two seasons - coming out on the losing end. All of a sudden, they've learned they can play and win, even if it means having to battle back to do it like they had to do against the Lady Red Devils.

After trailing the entire game against Lincoln County, Warren County finally claimed the lead for the first time with 2:57 remaining in the fourth and final quarter. Scoring the basket that led to the lead change was Candice Warthen, a sensational sophomore player, who pumped in 35 points to lead all scorers in the game. She hit a layup shot before being fouled and then sank a free-throw.

Warthen's basket that gave Warren County the lead came off a big rebound by Tyhesia Harris on the opposite end of the court.

Other players scoring in the game for Warren County included: Somone Hordens, 9, Sondra Hardin, 7, Tyhesia Harris, 7, Tynishia Harris, 6, Tyneisha Johnson, 2, and Lashundria Reynolds, 2 points.
