Relay for Life kickoff planned for Jan. 30 at Augusta Tech

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life kick off meeting is coming up Tuesday, Jan. 30. During the gathering at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Augusta Tech's Thomson campus, the award-winning 2006 Relay will be celebrated and plans will be made for the 2007 event to be held May 18 and 19 at the Thomson High School track.

Organizer Peggy Willis said last year, the relay raised more than $235,000 for cancer research and education and involved more than 2,500 people from McDuffie County. Fifty-three teams participated and more than 275 local cancer survivors were recognized.

Mrs. Willis is asking existing teams' representatives - as well as anyone interested in setting up a new team - to come to the Jan. 30 meeting.

Any questions before the 7 p.m. meeting at Augusta Tech may be directed to Mrs. Willis at 706-726-2244.
