All Steve Chalker wanted was his gavel.

Outgoing Chamber Chairwoman Mary Anne Coussons passes the gavel to 2005 Chairman Steve Chalker.

The incoming Chairman of the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce finally got his wish Thursday night.
Last year's chairman, Mary Anne Coussons, presented Mr. Chalker with two gavels -- a small one made of foam and a larger blow-up model -- during the Chamber's 33rd Annual Banquet at Belle Meade.
"Mary Anne is always willing to roll up her sleeves and get involved," said Mr. Chalker, just before he introduced the 2005 chamber board members. "She will definitely be a hard act to follow."
Mrs. Coussons encouraged people to get involved with the chamber and not to hesitate to pat the group on the back.
"Never assume someone gets told what a good job they are doing or that they are appreciated or that they are loved," she said.

Southern humorist Robert Alston entertained the crowd following dinner.

But the order of the night was handing out two community awards -- the Business Person of the Year award and Darrell Johnson Award.
