Camellia Lions plan Baby Derby

The annual Thomson City Camellia Lions Club Baby Derby is on its way.

Starting on Feb. 28 and ending April 11, the baby derby will help raise money for the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind and other Sight Conservation Projects.

The baby derby is a photo contest for all children birth through four years old. The entry fee is $5. The contestant collecting the most votes at 25 cents a vote will be the winner. At the time of registration, the child will receive a container for collecting their votes. First prize will be a trophy and a $50 US Savings Bond. Third place will receive a trophy and $25 cash.

On Feb. 17, between 3-6 p.m., the Camellia City Lions will be at Wal-Mart with the entry forms. Forms will also be at childcare centers and several businesses in Thomson. For applications or further information on the baby derby, please call Lions: Ann Lewis at 706-595-7208, Joan Malcom at 706-595-2810, Kathy Phillips at 706-595-1821, Joyce Shurling at 706-595-3974 and Melba Watkins at 706-556-3272.

The Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind is located in Waycross. Since its creation in 1975, more than 1,000 children and young adults have attended the camp completely free of charge. Thomson Camellia City Lions Club sponsored a local youth this past summer with funds raised through its projects. This year, the Thomson Camellia City Lions Club has donated $1,000 to the camp.
