Mr. Franklin E. "Gene" Griffith, Sr.
Retired Civil Service

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Franklin E. "Gene" Griffith, Sr., 72, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 in the Medical College of Georgia Medical Center.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Timmerman officiating.

Mr. Griffith was a native of Norwood, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from civil service and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended the Dearing Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Inus and Ruby Griffith; his daughter, Cynthia Lynn Zimmerman; his brother, Pete Griffith and two sisters, Mary Bell Newsome and Ella Mae Greene.

He is survived by his son, Franklin E. Griffith, Jr. and his wife, Fanchor, of Jasper, Ala.; grandsons, Jamie Griffith and wife, Michelle of Auburn, Ala., Scott Griffith and wife, Jenifer of San Diego, Calif., Weston Griffith and Braden Griffith, both of Jasper; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Inus Griffith, Jr. of McDonough, Ga., and William (Willie) Griffith of Hapeville, Ga.; his sister, Cornelia Hinton of Thomson; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Helen Phillips, Dearing.

Curist Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
