Dearing Fire Department adds new truck to fleet

The Dearing Fire Department purchased a 1988 GMC Detroit Diesel Engine from the North Columbia fire department for about $55,000. The truck replaces the 1968 truck at Fire Station One. Mayor Sean Kelley said the new truck was a good deal because it came fully equipped, fulfilling the department's need to purchase updated equipment to become approved by Insurance Services Organization.

"The old truck was pretty much useless. ... Now we have two very nice, solid trucks. ... It was a good deal because we got good equipment plus a truck ... and now our property insurance will drop," Mayor Kelley said.

The Mayor said the department should be ISO certified by mid-summer. ISO ratings determine property insurance premiums. Currently, Dearing's ISO rating is eight, but the goal is to be six or better. The town council has not yet decided what to do with the old truck.
