City OKs probation contact
The Thomson City Council voted to renew its probation services contract with CSRA Probation Services. The contract was due to expire in March.
CSRA Probation Services President Mike Popplewell gave a presentation to the city council earlier this month showing stats of his company's service since March of 2004. Mr. Popplewell said his company collected on 34 percent more cases than the previous year, with the total number of community service hours tripled and the number of warrants decreasing. "So people are complying with the conditions of their probation," he said.
The county's current service provider, Teresa McClellan, president of Client Management Systems, also made a presentation to the council. Ms. McClellan worked for Mr. Popplewell until she started her own company last year and received the contract with the county.
Councilman Alton Belton made the motion to award the contract to CSRA Probation Service, and all city council members voted in favor of the motion with the exception of Ken Usry.
