DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Melvin Watson Gay, 70, died Wednesday evening, February 14, 2007, in the V. A. Medical Center in Augusta.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Rockefeller and Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating. Burial followed in the Walker Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Jenkins, Clarence Holliman, Billy Gay, Daniel Gay, Ray Gay and Timmy Gay.
A native of Dearing, Mr. Gay was a son of the late Horace and Nellie Rogers Gay. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and was the owner of the Ridge Tavern in Pea Ridge.
Mr. Gay is survived by companion Georgia Barrett, of Dearing; two daughters and sons-in-law: Pat and Mike Jenkins, of Thomson, Sherry and James Key, of Dearing; sister Elizabeth and Joe Young of Thomson; brother, Herman and Henrietta Gay of Warrenton; three grandchildren: Tonya and Curtis Whitaker, Shane Jenkins, Scott and Martha Key; two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
