Mr. Joe Walker Meadows, Sr.

COCHRAN, Ga. - Mr. Joe Walker Meadows, Sr., 80, retired farmer and peach grower, died Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, after a short illness.

Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Meadows.

He is survived by his wife, Kemper Meadows; daughters, Dorothy Meadows Knox, Mary Meadows Sloop, Jenny Meadows, Laura Meadows, Margaret Grimsley, Mary Lee Wimberly; son Joe Walker Meadows, Jr.; 13 grandchildren; and sisters, Kathryn Kerr and Evelyn Steele.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Meadows lived his entire life in Bleckley County, Georgia. He attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Georgia. He cultivated his life-long love of music as a member and soloist of the UGA Glee Club and Cochran First United Methodist Church, which he served in many capacities. He was an original member of the Bleckley County Hospital Authority, an active member of the Georgia Peach Growers Association and Georgia Farm Bureau and former director of the Production Credit Association.

Services were held Monday, February 19, at 11 a.m. at Cochran First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Mays officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his sons-in-law and grandsons, Bob Knox, Jr., Labe Sloop, Robbie Grimsley, Lane Wimberly, Philip Sloop, Rob Grimsley, Walker Meadows and Jim Wimberly.

Memorial donations may be made to Cochran First United Methodist Church, 119 East Dykes Street, Cochran, Georgia, 31014.

Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
