APPLING, Ga. -- Mr. Forest L. Johnson, 75, beloved husband of Mrs. Shirley S. Johnson, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, in the University Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 22, in the Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dan White, Tim Corbin and Mark Taylor officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Boneville. He was a graduate of Thomson High School, Class of 1947, and graduated from Georgia Southern University, Class of 1956. He was the retired manager of the Georgia Department of Labor, Augusta Division. He served as manager of government programs for the National Alliance of Business. He was a charter member and first Chairman of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Industrial Economic Development Committee. He was a former member of the Statesboro Jaycees, Augusta Jaycees and charter member of the Martinez Jaycees. He was a charter member of the C.S.R.A. Mounted Sheriff's Posse. He was a member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club. He served on the Columbia County Development Authority and the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, The Augusta Chapter.
He was a former board chairman and board member of the Augusta Red Cross for more than 25 years. He was life member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He served in the Third Division during the Korean War, where he received several Commendations. He was a former President and member of the International Association of Personnel, Georgia Chapter. He was the Treasurer and active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church Men's Club. He was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was a former Treasurer of the White Oak United Methodist Campground. He was a member of the Georgia Forestry Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Mary Johnson; his brother, Rob Will 'Rusty' Johnson; his sister, Betty Jean Odum.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley S. Johnson, Appling; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and John Cook and Mary Edith and James Kirkland, both of Appling; five grandchildren, Andy and Ashley Garner, Shanon and Carrie Serigney, Eric and Rhianna Cook, Forest Wade Kirkland and Hannah Marie Kirkland and three great-grandchildren, Koby Serigney, Garrett Serigney and Jonathan Garner.
Pallbearers were Danny Johnson, Harold Harbin, Doug Parker, Carl Stine, Calbert Schlein and Don Holley. Honorary pallbearers were the Winfield Coffee Club, The Shiloh United Methodist Men's Club and the Thomson High School Class of 1947.
