Thomson team advances to second round of state playoffs

After missing out on state playoff action last season, the Thomson boys' basketball team rode a two-point victory on Feb. 24 into the second round of the 2007 state playoffs. Their record stands at 19-10 on the season.

The Bulldogs - the fourth seed from Region 3-AAA - put away Carver of Columbus - the top seed from Region 2-AAA - by the score of 79-77 in the opening round of the playoffs.

According to gasports.com, Thomson will now travel to Columbus State University on March 2 to face the Region 1-AAA second seed, Westover, at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Should the Bulldogs take home their 20th win of the season, their opponent in the elite eight round will be the winner of the Shaw versus West Laurens game.

Shaw, the fourth seed from Region 2-AAA, defeated top seed Glenn Hills to advance. West Laurens is the two-seed from Region 4-AAA.

The state semifinals and finals will be played in the Macon Centreplex on March 9 and 10.
