Garden Study Club meets at home of Mildred Wright

The Garden Study Club met for its Feb. 8, 2006, meeting at the home of Mildred Wright. Refreshments were served to the seven members attending. The opening devotional was given by Mrs. Wright entitled "What If ..."

The program for the day was a video entitled "Decorating with Flowers" given by Becky Baxter, who does unique lecture/demonstrations on flower arranging and decorating in the Williamsburg tradition. It was an informative, entertaining presentation that showed how to create beautiful floral effects and have a good time doing them. Using flowers, herbs and foliage from our gardens, club members were given step-by-step instructions for versatile eye-catching arrangements.

The business meeting was presided over by President Louise McCommons. The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given. Final plans for Camellia Day were announced and everyone was encouraged to wear a hat for this special occasion.

Announcement was made that the yard of Bob and Dot Knox on Lee Street was recognized as the Yard of the Month for February by the McDuffie County Garden Council.

The flower arrangement for February was "Love Is The Theme" with appropriate accessories. First place was Mary Frances Gibson and second place was Mildred Wright. Specimen winners for the day were first place - Bunnie Howell, second place - Ruth Knox, third place - Lynn Collins and honorable mention - Mary Frances Gibson and Mildred Wright.
