Thomson teams continue soccer success

The Thomson High School Lady Dogs soccer team went undefeated in its first three games, while the boys' team went 2-1.

Thomson's Pop Chambliss dribbles the ball.

"We have a young but talented group of players that always give their best effort," said Girls' Coach Ben Davall. "We have only one senior, and I expect us to only get better in the coming years."

The Lady Dogs - who are 1-0 in region play - have rolled over opponents so far. They dismantled Butler 8-1, before beating Lincoln County 9-1 at home last Friday.

Thomson's boys also blasted Butler, winning 6-3, but they fell to Lincoln County 7-1.

Coach Barry Arrington said Andrew Hamilton, Matt McEver and Josh Withrow have scored for the Dogs, while Jonny Weishedel, Scott McClure and Ryan Cook have been stellar on defense.

Chelsea Jones takes a kick against Lincoln County.

And he's already picked a few areas for improvement.

"We need to continue working on playing together as a team," he said. "The last two games we have not played very well together."

Up next for Thomson soccer is a region match against Cross Creek in The Brickyard Friday night.

Aaron Messick battles a Lincoln County defender for the ball during Friday's game.

Thomson's Casey Brooks collides with a Lincoln player.
