Like last year's football season, Thomson's 2006 schedule - released early this week - calls for the Bulldogs to be away more than home.
"The schedule's alright," Thomson Coach Luther Welsh said. "Getting these non-region games, you have to get the game and then worry about where you're playing at. We've got four home and six away, but that's the way it goes. That's better than not having a game."
The Bulldogs open the regular season on Sept. 1 in Conyers against AAAA opponent Salem, who finished last season 9-3. On Sept. 8, they travel just up the road to play traditional rival and AA state runner up from last year, Washington-Wilkes.
The final non-region game takes place in Thomson against Jefferson County on Sept. 15. Thomson gets Sept. 22 off.
"I was just happy to get the games. I couldn't get choosy. People wouldn't play me," Coach Welsh said.
The next seven games in a row take place against fellow Region 3-AAA foes, Hephzibah (home), Benedictine, Butler, Glenn Hills (home), Harlem, Cross Creek (home) and Washington County.
Spring practice for the Bulldogs begins on May 1. Conditioning begins on Aug. 7 in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads. Practice in full pads begins on Aug. 14, and a scrimmage game against Screven County has not yet been finalized.
