Dearing man gets lottery shot at $1 million

A Dearing man will have a chance to win $1 million from the Georgia Lottery after he sank eight free throws in 30 seconds to win a trip to the Grand Prize Million Dollar Hoopla Event April 1.

"I just tried to stay focused," said Jerry Brinkley after he won the event March 11 in Augusta. "I wasn't expecting this because I don't play basketball. I just play horse in the backyard with my 11-year-old daughter, Karlee."

Mr. Brinkley participated in the basketball event after entering a second chance drawing from the instant game $100 Million Cash Spectacular. From the second chance drawing, contestants were picked to participate in 10 regional basketball contests.

The regional winners will vie for the $1 million prize which will be decided at the Atlanta Hawks game April 1.
