McCord signs with Cumberland

Tim McCord is ready for football at the next level.

Thomson's Tim McCord (center) poses with Thomson Head Coach Luther Welsh (from left), Assistant Coach Chris Hodges and Cumberland University Head Football Coach Dewayne Alexander.

The Thomson High School senior wingback signed a scholarship to play for the Cumberland University Bulldogs last week.

"I guess it's a great day," he said, following the signing ceremony in the school library. "I'm excited to get the chance to further my education and play the sport that I love."

Cumberland Head Coach Dewayne Alexander said he was impressed with McCord's play on the field and with his reputation among teachers and coaches.

"He's a quality young man - self disciplined and hard working," he said.

Cumberland runs a Wing-T offense variant, and Coach Alexander said McCord could fit in almost anywhere in the backfield.

"He certainly gives us a lot of options," he said.
