Just a day after employers gathered in the Thomson Depot to help local folks find jobs, Shaw Industries made an announcement that may make their searches a little easier.
The $27 million investment in our community means more production capability for one of the company's most successful plants. Much more importantly, it means 65-70 jobs (depending on who's estimate you want to use) for the McDuffie County area.
The announcement comes from a company that has melded into a vital part of our community over the last two decades. For example, Shaw is a regular corporate sponsor of large events like the annual Heart Walk and this year gave more than $30,000 to the local United Way.
Shaw's announcement is great news for everyone, but it is just one of several success stories in the community. Other expansion projects are planned or underway at Thomson Plastics, Milsco and Pelzer, just to name a few.
The projects help prove what many of us already know: McDuffie County is not a bad place to live and labor. And it's a combination of community and corporate citizens that make it work.
