The Briarwood Academy Lady Bucs took five firsts while the Bucs took four in the first track meet of the season, a five-way meet last week at Briarwood.
Thomas Jefferson Academy of Louisville, Edmund Burke Academy of Waynesboro, Brentwood High School of Sandersville, and Gatewood High School of Eatonton participated in the meet.
In the girls' field events, junior Blythe Ansley took first place in the triple jump with a jump of 33 feet; sophomore Beth Gerlach took the shot put competition with a put of 29 feet, 4 inches and junior Ashley Pickard took first place in long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 10 inches.
In the girls running events, junior Anne Wills took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.66 seconds and first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.28 seconds.
In the boys' field events, senior Bob Wills took first in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 2 inches. Sophomore Tyler Wester took first in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, 6 inches.
In the boys running events, senior Tyler Johnson took first in the 1600-meter dash with a time of 5.35:12. The 4x100 meter relay team of Wills, Wester, Kelsey Jones and Burt Goolsby placed first with a time of 48:09.
