Local government crews, civic clubs, even local residents are working to clean up the area.
"I think everyone -- especially the city crews -- is doing a good job on the clean-up," City Councilman Mike Carrington said.
Thomson City Administrator Bob Flanders recently joined McDuffie County Manager Don Norton and Forward McDuffie Director Don Powers in drafting a letter calling on local business owners to join clean-up efforts.
"We need to emphasize that keeping our community clean and attractive is good business," Mr. Flanders said.
Mr. Carrington said city crews have taken the first steps, and it's now up to local businesses and residents in some cases.
"Some of these projects aren't really in the city's jurisdiction," he said. "We're kind of going the extra mile to clean it up."
Mr. Flanders said he hopes community clean-up efforts will extend throughout the year.
"The thing we've got to keep working and hounding is responsible behavior," he said.
Mr. Flanders praised Audrey Eller for her flowery efforts.
"(Her blossoms) are right on time," he said.

In an effort to encourage clean-up projects, a Trash Amnesty Day is set for Saturday, March 27, from 7 a.m. until noon. Residents can drop off materials at the transfer station on Mesena Road for free that day.
