Soldier thankful for cookie donation

Dear Thomson Middle School Team 802,

Thank you all so much for sending us the Girl Scout cookies. I put some of them in our Ready Room, where all the pilots hang out, and some in Maintenance Control, where all of the maintenance Marines come on a daily basis. Everyone appreciated having snacks around for a couple of days. Yep, I said a couple of days. They gobbled them down pretty fast. I hid a package of the thin mints for myself before I put them out, but I'll probably eat them all in one sitting one of these evenings when I get hungry.

Things here are going pretty well. We have been flying a lot, helping to find the insurgents who don't want to let the Iraqis live in peace. We really appreciate your support back home. We know that even those who don't support the war (which is OK) still support us. We will continue to do whatever it is we are directed to do by the President of the United States, and we will keep you all and the Iraqi people safe.

Very respectfully,

Capt. David "Pops" Shipley

VMA-311 Det A

Al Asad, Iraq
