Mr. R.L. 'Hop' Matthews
Craftsman

RESACA, Ga. - Mr. R.L. 'Hop' Matthews, 63, of Resaca, Ga., entered into rest March 21, 2006 at Hutcheson Medical Center.

Survivors include, sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and April Matthews, Thomson, Wade and Krista Matthews, Thomson; sister, Mary Harrelson (Wendell), Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Morgan Matthews, India Matthews, Anna Matthews, Katelyn Matthews and Jackson Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was born in Crossville, Ala., lived in Resaca, Ga., but lived in Thomson, for many years. He was a graduate of Berry College, taught Industrial Arts for 18 years, was the former owner of Kelly Machine and Fabrication in Thomson and was the owner of Matthews Guns, Ltd., Gunsmith. Mr. Matthews was also a member of First Baptist Church, Thomson and was a former Royal Ambassadors Leader and former Sunday School Teacher.

Memorial Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2006 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Leonard Dupree officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were James Bridges, Wes Hixon, Andy Purvis, Bobby Painter, Jerry Fite, Aaron Tribble, Roger Dozier and James McKenzie . Memorials may be made to the Royal Ambassador Program c/o First Baptist Church P. O. Box 1205 Thomson, Ga .

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
