This year's Thomson High School Athletic Booster Club Banquet, set for Friday night, will be focused on the Knox family.
The entire Bob Knox, Sr. family will be recognized by the booster club with their annual award, and Mary McNeill will be remembered with a scholarship in her name.
Long-time booster club members remember Bob Knox, Sr. as a dedicated member of the club who had the best interests of the students and athletes in mind.
The event will be at Thomson First Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall, Friday evening at 7 p.m. and will be catered by Neal's Barbecue. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any booster club member.
This year's banquet will also feature Claude McBride as the keynote speaker. Mr. McBride is a former chaplain at the University of Georgia.
The Adam McCorkle/Tony Smith Memorial Scholarship will be awarded at the banquet to a deserving athlete at THS. The new McNeill Scholarship is reserved specifically for a Thomson football player.
All of the male members of the family played football for THS, including Mrs. McNeill's brothers, Andy Knox and Thomson Mayor Bob Knox, Jr. as well as her husband Don.
The family of each scholarship honoree chooses the recipient from a list of deserving candidates given to them by Coach Luther Welsh.
The booster club's annual golf tournament fundraiser, which is usually held in conjunction with the banquet, has been postponed to August after renovations are complete on the Belle Meade course.
Anyone interested in attending the banquet should contact Ralph Starling or Jeff Cowart for more information.
