Broun makes campaign stop in Thomson

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun is back on the campaign trail - less than a year after having won the 10th District Congressional seat following the death of Charlie Norwood.

Rep. Broun, who is a medical doctor by profession and lives in Oconee County near Athens, visited with perspective voters in Thomson last Thursday. He first talked with residents at Michael's Restaurant before visiting the staff of the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office and Huddle House staff and customers. He even spoke with construction workers involved in the revitalization project downtown.

Rep. Broun pointed out that one of the fastest growing addictions in America "is not a dependence on alcohol or a lust for food. It is not an obsession with gambling, but rather, as addiction research suggests, it is a compulsion to overspend."

Rep. Broun said instead of raising taxes, he wants to lower them and get rid of wasteful spending.

Rep. Broun also said it is also important that "we secure our borders and enforce current laws."
