THS girls' soccer coach suspended

The varsity girls' soccer coach at Thomson High School has been suspended from his teaching job at Thomson Middle School for unspecified reasons, according to McDuffie County School Superintendent Mark Petersen.

Ben Davall, a teacher at the middle school, was suspended with pay last Friday afternoon, Dr. Petersen confirmed on Monday during a telephone with The McDuffie Mirror.

"He has been suspended with pay pending a complete investigation," Dr. Petersen said. "We're going to our best to take care of boys and girls."

Dr. Petersen refused to elaborate about the reason for the action, explaining that he could not say anything more about the matter.

Attempts to contact Mr. Davall for comment via e-mail and his home phone number have met with no success at his home in Martinez.

Mr. Davall has been employed with the McDuffie County School System since August 2003. During those four years, he has served as the girls' varsity soccer coach at Thomson High School.

Dr. Petersen said Mr. Davall's suspension followed a meeting with Thomson High School Principal Rudy Falana and Thomson Middle School Principal Claude Powell.
