Several prestigious awards were handed out during the annual Spouse and Friends Night of the Thomson Kiwanis Club held Monday night, March 28, at Thomson First Baptist Church.

Jim Rivers hugs Mary Ann Whitaker, widow of Cecil "Whit" Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was posthumously given the Hixon award.

Two George F. Hixson Fellowship awards were presented for dedicated service and significant contributions to the local Kiwanis Club. The first award went to longtime Kiwanis member Robert Hughes. The second was presented in memory of C.W. "Whit" Whitaker to Mary Ann Whitaker.
With each Hixson Fellowship, a $1,000 donation is made to the Kiwanis International Foundation Endowment Fund to benefit the worldwide service project to eradicate iodine deficiency. (Each Hixson award recipient is presented a medallion, plaque and lapel pin.)
In other awards, the distinguished Kiwanian award went to Foster Wiley. Tommy Phelps was presented the Kiwanian of the Year award for 2003/2004. Tony Gazette was the presented the past president plaque and pin for his service in 2003/2004.
