Elder J.A. Langham

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- Elder J.A. Langham, 87, of Kernersville, N.C., passed away Friday, April 1, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Warren County, Ga., to William and Katie Newsom Langham. Elder Langham served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater in World War II. He was an ordained minister of the Primitive Baptist Church for 45 years, having served as pastor of Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church for 28 years and in numerous other churches. He was also retired from Langham Construction Co. Elder Langham was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and four brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jessie M. Langham, of the home; two sons, Jim Langham and wife, Charlene, of Greensboro and Steve Langham and wife, Sarah, of Morehead City; a daughter, Nancy Holston, and husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Willie Kate Henderson of Tallahassee, Fla., Cleo Smith and husband, Harvey, of Louisville, Ga., and Judy Scott and husband, Hugh, of North Augusta, S.C.; a brother, J.C. Langham, and wife, Annette, of Thomson; a brother-in-law, Wayburn Minton and wife, Helen, of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, April 4, at Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Hogan and Elder E. W. Hooven officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
