MITCHELL, Ga. -- Mr. Jack G. Smallwood, Sr., 72, beloved husband of Mrs. Dorothy Huff Smallwood of Mitchell, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial followed in the Camak United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Smallwood was a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, son of the late Thomas Carlton Smallwood and Sarah Frances Bell Smallwood. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was retired as a forester with more than 46 years of service at Canal Wood. He was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church, also served more than 30 years as a dedicated poll officer, including more than 20 years as the poll manager of the Beall Springs District of Warren County.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Smallwood, Mitchell; one son, Jack (Amanda) Smallwood Jr., Thomson; one brother, Joe (Betty) Smallwood, Warrenton; one sister, Brenda S. (Bobby) McDonald, Tennille; and three grandchildren: Mandy Smallwood, Tommy Smallwood and Camille Smallwood.
Pallbearers were Walley C. Thigpen, Jesse Reese, Reggie Hinton, Robert Petrie, Nick Cloud, and Bernard Holt.
