McDuffie County's Cloverleaf 4-H'ers shine at district competition

Forty McDuffie Cloverleaf 4-H'ers traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton to participate in District Project Achievement on Feb. 19, and 31 of them came back as winners. McDuffie County was recognized as having the second highest number of participants at the event.

"They're all really winners," said Kathleen Drayton, McDuffie County 4-H Program Assistant. "It took a lot of work and practice for each young person to prepare for this event." Each fifth and sixth grade 4-H'er gave an illustrated talk or demonstration on a topic they chose. Most demonstrations last about four minutes, and the 4-H'ers use two or three posters.

Competition for Cloverleaf 4-H'ers end at district competition, but it prepares them for more advanced competition as they get older. Winners included:

First place: Elizabeth Ivey - Between Meal Snacks; Keith Howell -- Companion Animal Science; TJ Ruff -- Performing Arts/Instrumental; Justin Bettross -- Wildlife; Kersie McLin -- Fashion Revue; Moeshia Robinson -- Performing Arts/Vocal; Taylor Clark -- International; Bryce Phillip -- Beef; William Richards -- Diary and Milk Science.

Second place: Grace Gregson -- Archaeology; Falon Sellers -- Between Meal Snacks; Carrie McCauley -- Cat Care; Idalease Cummings -- Clothing and Textiles; Brianna Burns -- Computers; Tracy Moss -- General Recreation; Austin Cooper -- General Recreation; Adrianne Dawkins - Veterinary Science; Quaderrian Bryant - Ocean Ecology; William Lloyd -- Fashion Revue; Myesha Tate -- Peforming Arts/Vocal; Asha Booker -- Human Development; Megan Reese -- Interior Design; Katlyn Hunter -- Entomology.

Third place: Ebony Lee -- Between Meal Snacks; Breya Bentley -- Clothing and Textiles; Mallory Bland -- Computers; Whitney Williams -- Performing Arts/Instrumental; Cindy Vo -- Quick Meals; Megan Holliman -- Fashion Revue; Kaitlyn Lewis -- History; Bridgett Lowe -- Plants, Soils and Fertilize.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Human -- Electric/Electronics; Alysia Jackson -- General Recreation; Janti Brown -- Health; Matt McHatton -- Performing Arts/Instrumental; Shelby Edwards -- Sports; Brea Boutwell -- Veterinary Science; Kelsie Hadden -- Performing Arts/Vocal; Kiana Anderson -- History; Kanisha Barbour -- History;

The following older 4-H'ers served as teen leaders: Keturah Jackson, Elizabeth Hawkins, Tony Mims, Amber Johnson and Amanda Acosta.

Kathy Neal, Thomson Middle School teacher, attended as a volunteer leader. Also attending were: Frank Watson, County Extension Coordinator, Kathleen Drayton, McDuffie County 4-H Program Assistant and Caroline Richardson, County Extension Agent.

2) 4h1 -- cutline: Fifth graders who participated in District Project Achievement were: first row -- Megan Holliman, Grace Gregson, Cindy Vo and Andrew Hyman; second row -- Program Assistant Kathleen Drayton, Idealease Cummings, Shelby Edwards, Brea Boutwell, Ebony Lee and William Lloyd; third row -- Falon Sellers, Breya Bentley, Asha Booker, Bridgett Lowe and Austin Cooper.
