Mrs. Barbara Burch Statham
Teacher

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Barbara Burch Statham of Martinez died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 27, 2004 following a brief illness.

She was the devoted wife of Norman G. Statham for 53 years. Mrs. Statham, the daughter of the late John B. Burch and Louise L. Burch, was a native of Thomson.

She graduated from Thomson High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia College and State University. After doing graduate work in the university system of California, she taught in the public schools of that state for a number of years. She ended her teaching career as an instructor of modern dance at Fairliegh-Dickenson College in New Jersey.

Having lived in various cities throughout the United States, Mrs. Statham moved to Martinez in 1980 when her husband retired. She was a member of West Lake Garden Club and the West Lake Lady Lakers and active in those organizations.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Jane Hawes of Augusta and her brother-in-law, Gordon Statham of Atlanta; her nieces, Christy Brown and her husband Tom of Thomson and Cindy Boyer and her husband Kirk of Spring Hill, Tenn., and her nephews, Rick Hawes and his wife Karen of Thomson and Ward Statham of Ellijay.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Brian Davis officiating.

Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
