AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. John Lee "Big John" Brassell, 80, husband of Betty W. Brassell, of Augusta, entered into rest April 7, 2007, at Burke County Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Rev. Billy Atkins and Rev. Marion Jay officiating. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were Steve Cawthon, Bob Lane, L.R. Newman, Bobby Maddox, Steve Crislip, Bob Moore, and Donald Norris.
Mr. Brassell had lived in the Augusta area since 1961. He retired from E.I. Dupont as an operator. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and the Brothers Sunday School Class. He was an avid hunter, gardener and fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Rosa Stanley Brassell, his son, Jerry Brassell and by his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Horace Milburn.
Additional survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Johnny L. and Sharon Brassell, daughter, Janice Gault, two grandchildren, Jeremy Brassell and Sandy Brassell, all of Augusta, one brother, Lamar Brassell, of Thomson, and one sister, Joan Johnson, of Mitchell.
