THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Bobby L. Sturkey, Sr., 55, died Saturday April 7, 2007, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sonny Peevy officiating.
Burial followed in the Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Nick Montgomery, Jimmy Howard, Jr., Andy "Pete" Mendricks, David Sturkey, Tracy Neal, and B.L. Treadwell.
A native of McDuffie County, Mr. Sturkey was a son of the late Fonzie and Mary Walker Sturkey. He was a carpenter and had worked for National Homes and Plant Vogtle. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Mr. Sturkey is survived by four sons, Ken Richards, Edgefield, S.C., Bobby Sturkey, Jr., Thomson, Roger Sturkey, Thomson, and Benji Sturkey, Thomson; ex-wife and mother of his children, Shelia Hohnhorst; ex-wife, Mary Sturkey Burkey; six step children, Russell Jones, Aiken, S.C., Wayne Jones, Jean Jones, Lloyd Jones, Lewis Jones, and Laura Bracknell, all of Thomson; five sisters, Agnes Brooks, Mary Langham, Gladys Keller, Kathleen Morris, Rita Treadwell, all of Thomson; three brothers, Buck Sturkey, Billie Sturkey, Thomson, David "Bud" Sturkey, all of Thomson; 20 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
