Local anglers perform well in ABA event

McDuffie County anglers took second and third place in the American Bass Anglers tournament on April 8 from the Dorn Boating Facility.

First place went to Don Morrison of Augusta, who caught five fish that weighed a total of 11.37 lbs.

Thomson's Milton Keene placed second with five fish weighing 10.89 lbs. Mr. Keene also caught the big fish of the tournament, a 6.02-lb. largemouth.

Mary Joyner of Dearing caught five fish with a total weight of 10.71 pounds - enough to win third place.

There were 13 anglers that caught 50 fish with a total weight of 92.07 pounds with all being released alive. The next tournament will be held April 29 on Clarks Hill Lake at Mistletoe State Park Ramp.

American Bass Anglers is the largest tournament trail for the weekend angler and has more than 115 districts offering more than 1,000 tournaments throughout the United States. Membership is open to anyone age 16 and over who is not a professional fisherman or guide. Those under 18 must have written parental consent.
