AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James D. Goodwin, 74, beloved husband of Millie Shirley Goodwin entered into rest Thursday, April 13, 2006 at University Hospital.
Mr. Goodwin was born in Robertsdale, Ala., to the late James D. Goodwin, Sr. and Estelle Harvell Goodwin. He had served in the US Army and also the US Air Force serving in the Korean War. After his military career, Mr. Goodwin worked for the Civil Service until his retirement and then became the owner of Lawn Master of Augusta. He attended Dearing Full Gospel Church, was an avid golfer and a member of Green Meadows Country Club, but his most enjoyment was in sharing his latest joke. He was a wonderful husband of 50 years, and a loving Father and Papa who will truly be missed.
Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2006, from the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road with Revs. Eddie Renew and Jerry Rockefeller officiating. Interment services followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bob Shobert, James Testi, Timothy Calhoun, Domenick Testi, Gerald Shirey, and Jimmy Brinson. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Green Meadows Country Club.
Additional family members include a daughter; Brenda Shobert and her husband Bob, of Grovetown, two granddaughters; Julie Calhoun and her husband Timothy, of Grovetown, and Brittany Miller of Grovetown, one grandson; James Testi and his fiance Krissy Drawdy, of Augusta, two sisters; Faye Dyer of Virginia, and Ruby Lynch of Texas, two brothers; Benson Goodwin of Alabama, and Cecil Goodwin of IL.
Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by a son; Michael J. Goodwin.
