Mrs. Marie Smith Jones
Retired Seamstress

THOMSON, GA. - Mrs. Marie Smith Jones, 100, affectionately known as Granny, wife of the late Mr. Clifford Jones, was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday April 15, 2006.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday April 18, 2006 in the Sweetwater Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenneth Garvin and Rev. J.B. Redd, officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scott Jones, Jason Jones, Brian Jones, Todd Brooks, Tab Ansley and Guy Poss.

A native of McDuffie County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late William M. and Lula Rhoden Smith. She was the oldest of eight children who all preceded her in death. They were Boyd Smith of Virginia, Glover Smith, Barney Smith, Miriam S. Wilkerson, Mona Smith, Jessie S. Wilkerson, all of Thomson, and Rowena S. Hobbs of Dearing.

Mrs. Jones was the oldest member and very active until recent years at Sweetwater Baptist Church the W.M.U. prayer group and the Eunice Sunday school class. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother, she was a good friend and neighbor. She was employed at Thomson Company as a Seamstress during World War II making army and Navy uniforms. She retired in 1968. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, cooking and loving children.

She is survived by son & daughter in-law Gene & Shirley Jones, of Thomson, daughter Sara Colvin, of Gray, daughter & son in-law Louise & Archie Graham of Thomson, four grandchildren: James Jones, Wayne (Vicki) Jones, of Thomson, Shirley Colvin of Gray, and Carolyn C. (Greg) Jiles of Macon, eight great grandchildren: Scott (Joann) Jones, Missy (Todd) Brooks, Jason (Leigh) Jones, Brian (Amanda) Jones, Kelly J. (Guy) Poss & Molly J. (Tab) Ansley all of Thomson, and Christen J. (Shannon) Thompson & Lauren Jiles of Macon. Ten great-great grandchildren: Nicole Jones, Austin Jones, Cliff Jones, Payton Brooks, Porter Brooks, Phoebe Brooks, Ethan Ansley, Carson Ansley, & Chloe Poss all of Thomson, and Cayden Thompson of Macon. Eight step-grandchildren: Teresa (Jim) Bombard of Ky, Shamain (Ted) Grimes of North Augusta, Sherrylyn (Alvin) Wilder, Sharon Green & Kevin (Kelly) Green all of Dearing, Wanda Sisson of Thomson, Kelly (Brently) Cosnell ,Shelia (Steve) Fox of N.C. Twenty great-grand children: Robbie Hudson, Andy (Marsha) Fay, Lewis Fay, Graham Fay, Whitney Grimes, Teddi Grimes, Taylor Grimes, Tanner Grimes, Robbie (Shelby) Smith, Michael (Dana) Smith, Emily Green, Nicole Wilkie, Josh Raines, Kyle (Ashley) Dufore, Kole Dufore, Hannah Fisher, Aaron Tudor, Stephanie (Shane) Hawkins, Evan Fox, Avery Fox. Three step great-great grand children: Shana Hawkins, Eliza Dufore and Brooks Wilkie. Several nieces and nephews.
