Garden Study Club meets at Howell home on April 12

The Garden Study Club met on April 12 at the home of Bunnie Howell. The hostess served refreshments to the nine members present.

An opening thought was given by Mildred Wright on the meaning of Easter with "Resurrection Eggs."

The program for the day was given by Krista Wells. Her home was the scene of a Placement Flower Show on Feb. 14. The members of the Pine Needle Garden Club provided flower arrangements throughout the home in keeping with the furnishings, colors and season. Pictures were shown of the many floral arrangements placed throughout the home.

The president, Ruth Knox, presided over the business meeting. The minutes of the February meeting were read and approved. The treasurer made her report. The yard of the month for April was announced as that of Roy and Patsy Russell of Noble Street.

The new yearbooks were presented to the members. The theme for the year 2006-2007 is "Beauty in Bloom." Committee assignments were announced as well as programs, hostesses, and themes for arrangements each month.

The garden tips for the day were given by Carolyn Smith. They included a reminder not to work in wet soil, also it is time to prune, transplant, and fertilize plants.

The theme for flower arrangements was "Eastertide" reflecting the joy of Easter. The winners were first place - Lynn Collins, second place - Louise McCommons and Carolyn Smith, third place - Mildred Wright. Specimen winners were first place - Lynn Collins, second place - Bunnie Howell and Maggie Ziegger, third place - Carolyn Smith.

The Gardeners' Prayer was prayed by members to close the meeting.
