Young and Rivera to wed in Grovetown ceremony

Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Young of Thomson announce the engagement of their daughter, Christian Marie Young of Camby, Ind., to U.S. Army Lt. Ian Matthew Rivera. Lt. Rivera is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Rivera of Dearing. The wedding will be May 19 at New Hope Worship Center in Grovetown.

Miss Young is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Holbrooks Sr. of Toccoa and Ms. Louise Young and the late Mr. Lester Young of Elberton. She attended Thomson High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering. Currently, Miss Young is employed with the United States Postal Service as an industrial engineer.

Lt. Rivera is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Atanasio Rivera-Feliciano of Manhattan, NY, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Torres of Georgetown, Guyana. He attended Thomson High School and Augusta State University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Presently, he is a senior medical student at the Medical College of Georgia and will be starting his residency in internal medicine at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon in June.
