Mary Ann Knox and Oliver Roane Cross, III, were united in marriage at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Thomson. Rev. Eugenia Sealy Cross and Rev. Thomas Alfred Kerr officiated.
Mary Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Knox, Jr., of Thomson. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Joseph Walker Meadows and the late Mr. Joseph Walker Meadows and Mrs. Mary Ann Roach Meadows of Cochran, Ga., and Mrs. Robert Edward Knox and the late Mr. Robert Edward Knox of Thomson. Mary Ann attended Thomson High School, the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. She will begin a residency in pediatrics at the University of North Carolina in June.
Oliver is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Roane Cross, Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C. He is the grandson of Mrs. Thomas Eli Joyner, Jr., and the late Mr. Thomas Eli Joyner, Jr., of Farmville, North Carolina and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Roane Cross of Asheville, N.C. Oliver is a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School and Davidson College. Presently, he is employed by Trusco Capital Management as an Investment Manager.
Given in marriage by her father, Mary Ann chose her sisters, Laura Virginia Knox and Dorothy Austin Knox as her maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Eleanor Joyner Cross, sister of the groom, Caroline Middleton Knox and Virginia Ruth Sloop, cousins of the bride, Brooke Caroline Bentley, Jennifer Goodrich Bromley, Holly McDonell Sharp, Ashley Wharton Swann, and Adrienne Sims Wills all friends of the bride.
Oliver chose his father, Oliver Roane Cross, Jr., as his best man. Groomsmen were Howard Mathew Arbuckle, Daniel Bryan Hill, Brett Andrew Ialacci, Matthew Patten Kelley, George Winchester Kelly, Robert Dudley McCall, Alexander Harry Okulski, and Bryan McLean Windham, all friends of the groom.
Greeters were Lane Taylor Cross, Simeon Roane Cross, Andrew Hall Knox, and Joseph Walker Meadows, Jr., all uncles of the bride and groom. Program attendants were Ashley Richards Curtis, Mamie Robinson McLean, Laura Frances Smith, and Mollie Elizabeth Tankersley. A special prayer was offered by Rev. Charles Edward Steele, great uncle of the bride, and scriptures were read by William Tyler Littlejohn and Corey McArthur Dortch. The bride's register was attended by Kathryn Ellen Sloop, Virginia McNeill Vaughn, Paige Elizabeth Tucker, and Marybeth Lycett Smart.
Musicians were Laura Joann Baldwin, Ginger Wyrick Hipp, The First United Methodist Church Choir, Laura Virginia Knox, Dorothy Austin Knox, Jeanie Evans Joesbury, and Elizabeth Knox Hopkins.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's family. The couple will honeymoon in Peter Island and will reside in Chapel Hill, N.C.
