The Briarwood Academy Lady Bucs placed fifth overall and the Bucs placed seventh overall at the GISA AA state track meet last weekend at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
The Lady Bucs placed in ten events for their fifth place finish, taking two second places, two third places, two fourth places, one fifth place, three sixth places, two seventh places and one eighth place for a total of 56 points.
Shannon Newsome was the top finisher for the girls with 15.5 points. Newsome finished fourth in both the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.90 and the 300 meter hurdls with a time of 53.14. She took seventh place in the high jump and was a member of both relay teams.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Anna Goolsby, Lizzie Keen, Emily Henderson and Newsome placed second in state competition with a time of 4:20.53, while the 4x100 meter relay team of Keen, Newsome, Goolsby and Brandy Ray placed sixth in state competition with a time of 53.98.
Keen captured the Lady Bucs only individual second place finish with a time of 1:03.60 in the 400 meter dash, only .25 of second behind the first place winner. Goolsby took sixth place in the same competition.
Henderson finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.34. Goolsby took sixth place in that event. Henderson took another third place in the in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:50.13.
Brittini Phelps finished fifth in pole vault competition with jump of 7-06; Ray finished in seventh place in long jump competition with a jump of 14-11.50; Goolsby finished in eight place in the 100 meter dash.
The Bucs placed in eight events for their seventh place finish, taking one second place, two third places, one fourth place, one fifth place, one sixth place, one seventh place and one eighth place.
The Bucs 4x100 meter relay team of Hughlon Mays, Chase Walker, Nick Dawson and Matthew McElveen took the Bucs only second place finish with a time of 46.08. The 4x400 meter relay team of Walker, Dawson, McElveen and Ryan Nelson took third place with a time of 3:51.52.
Mathew Graziano finished in third place in the discus with a throw of 119-08, and Andrew Johnson finished in seventh place in discus with a throw of 109-09.
Mays, who earned the most points for the Bucs, took fourth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.78. Teammate Dawson took eighth place in the event with a time of 12.11.
Saul Smith placed fifith in pole vault with a vault of 9-06, and McElveen took sixth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.58.
