Mr. Michael James Register
Retired H.R. Manager

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Michael James Register, 72, widower of Mrs. Mary Jean Register, died Friday, May 2, 2008, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 5, in the Thomson First United Methodist Church with Revs. Tom Kerr and Liza Marler officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Register was born in Rentz, Ga., and lived in Macon before moving to Thomson. A retired Human Resources Manager for J.M. Huber Corporation, a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church. Scout Master of Troop 125, Mr. Register served on the Advisory Committee of the Boy Scouts of America. He won the Silver Beaver Award which is the highest award given in scouting.

Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey M. (Elaine) Register, Macon, Timothy J. (Angel) Register, Atlanta, and Jonathan A. (Rosemary) Register, Thomson; his mother, Mrs. Helen Register, Macon; a sister, Brenda (Barry) King, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Ted (Lisa) Register, Forsyth; three grandsons, Brandon M. Register, Steven L. Register, Anthony L. Langham; five granddaughters, Lauren Register, Anna Marie Register, Mallory Register, Jamie Lee Register, Kristy E. (Jefferson) Rabun' a great-grandson, Joshua W. Rabun; and his beloved pet, Scout Register.

Pallbearers were Donnie Reese, Neal Tam, Dean Hilson, Butch Askew, Clint Hilson, and Trent Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers were Larry King, Charlie Wolf, Guy Bivins, Bill Walker, Barry King, Jeff Cowart, Chris McGahee, and all present and past members of Troop 125.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Troop 125, C/O Thomson First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Thomson, GA 30824

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
